In solidarity with Erbil
Sulaymaniyah protest against IRGC attack scheduled
SULAYMANIYAH, 22 January – A group of Activists, writers, and intellectuals in Sulaymaniyah are set to hold a protest in the city of Sulaymaniyah against last week’s attack by the Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Erbil. The rally will take place in front of the local office for the Iraqi Parliament.
This demonstration, expected to draw journalists and political figures, aims to express strong opposition to the IRGC’s actions in Erbil and Turkey’s aggression in the Kurdistan Region. A statement denouncing these incidents – alongside Turkish military actions in the Kurdistan Region – will be read during the rally.
The statement, addressing Iran’s role in the attack, will be forwarded to Kurdish representatives in the Iraqi parliament, with a request to have it read in a parliamentary session at the national legislature.
While protests have occurred in other Kurdistan Region cities, this event marks the first major demonstration in Sulaymaniyah against the attack that killed prominent local businessman Peshraw Dizeyee and his 11-month-old baby, among other casualties.
