Youth in Tal Afar launch campaign to promote peace and tolerance
TAL AFAR, August 9 — Young people in Nineveh’s Tal Afar district have initiated a campaign aimed at fostering a spirit of peace and tolerance through various arts and culture events.
The campaign began with the inscription of seven messages in Arabic and an eighth in the Turkmen language on benches in the Al-Qal’ah neighborhood.
Ja’far Ali, head of the campaign team told 964: “A group of young individuals, both male and female, took the initiative to write messages promoting coexistence, peace, love, rejecting violence and extremism, encouraging reading, enriching the cultural and artistic landscape, and advocating for a greater role for women in the city.”
“The initiative received support from the organization Bawabat Al-Awn, where volunteers utilized the public benches as platforms to convey these positive messages.”
“The initiative also includes future plans for tree planting and leveraging social media and media outlets to support civic life, respect for beliefs and orientations, and leaving the past behind.”
