PM political advisor criticizes Iranian policies

BAGHDAD, January 17 — In an interview with 964media, the political advisor to the Prime Minister, Sabhan Mulla Jiad, said on Tuesday that Iraq has grown weary of Iran’s policies towards Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He stated that there are no justifications for the bombardment of Erbil other than belittling the neighbor and the need for a show of strength.

Sabhan Mulla Jiad, the Political Advisor to the Prime Minister to 964media:

What Prime Minister Al-Sudani announced regarding the Iranian attack on the Kurdistan Region reflects the position of a patriotic leader who does not compromise on sovereignty.

I believe that this stance is the first of its kind since 2003, an indication that Iraq, with its government, people, and political forces, has grown weary of Iranian policies.

The issue has recurred more than once, and there are no convincing justifications for this Iranian behavior other than belittling Iraq’s sovereignty and an unjustified and unproductive show of strength.

We hope that our brothers in neighboring Iran reconsider their calculations carefully and do not lose the relationship with Iraq again. They should respect what international law dictates in this regard.
