Moayed Mohsen’s “Scene of the Sun”: A Vivid Ode to Mesopotamian Heritage

BAGHDAD, January 15 – Artist Moayed Mohsen unveils his latest solo exhibition, “Scene of the Sun.” This collection is a journey through time, encapsulating works from various years, each echoing the rich tapestry of Mesopotamian heritage and contemporary dialogues.

Mohsen’s artistry is a blend of critical surrealism, deeply rooted in heritage and civilizational symbols. His paintings are more than just visual spectacles; they are conversations with the present, infused with energy drawn from iconic Mesopotamian landmarks. The lighthouse, palm trees, and the marshes are recurrent themes, symbolizing environmental resilience and the endurance of civilization.

“Scene of the Sun” is a testament to Mohsen’s protest-driven approach to art. Each piece is a canvas for social, political, and cultural commentary. In this exhibition, he also pays homage to his lifelong friend and fellow artist, Abdel Khaleq Al-Mukhtar, dedicating a painting in his honor.

In conversation with 964media, Moayed Mohsen described the exhibition as a realistic portrayal of the Iraqi environment. He employs historical metaphors and expressions of prevailing melancholy to critique behaviors reflective of Iraq’s history. His works are a narrative of the enduring struggle between oppressive figures and the resilience of the oppressed, a theme that resonates deeply in the fabric of Iraqi history.
