Blocking Schools Street

Protest in Suq Al-Shuyukh over sewage overflow

SUQ AL-SHUYUKH, DHI QAR, 6 January — On Friday evening, residents of Suq Al-Shuyukh, in southern Dhi Qar, took to the streets in protest, blocking the central Schools Street with burning tires. The demonstration was fueled by frustration over continuous sewage overflow and the near-total lack of services on this vital street.

Protesters spoke to 964media, expressing their demands for the immediate rehabilitation of Schools Street, plagued by sewage problems, lack of proper paving, and numerous potholes.

Schools Street, a primary road in the area, houses several primary, intermediate, and preparatory schools. The ongoing sewage issues have made it nearly impossible for students to access their schools, disrupting their education and daily life.
