Police diffuse bomb at Kirkuk transport station
KIRKUK, July 25 — Security forces in Kirkuk diffused an explosive planted at a local bus and taxi station on Tuesday.
Officials closed off streets around the Baghdad Garage on a tip that an improvised explosive device (IED) was in the area.
Col. Amer Nuri Shwani, spokesman for the Kirkuk police command, said that the bomb was defused by an explosives expert from the police department.
According to Shwani, authorities believe the bomb was locally made and launched an immediate investigation.
Baghdad Garage is one of the largest bus and taxi stations transporting travelers from Kirkuk to cities across the country.
