Protest in Diwaniyah as college faces eviction for new provincial council

DIWANIYAH, January 2 — Dozens of students, staff, and professors at the College of Education in Diwaniyah staged a protest on Tuesday against a decision to evacuate and allocate the building for the new Diwaniyah Provincial Council.

The Education Department in Diwaniyah issued a decision in recent days to evacuate the building currently occupied by the College of Education, relocating it to a building in the Officers’ neighborhood. The evacuated building is set to be occupied by the newly elected Diwaniyah Provincial Council.

Khaled Murad, a teacher at the college, said, “We reject evacuating the college now as we are preparing for mid-term exams in the coming days. We hope that the Directorate will make a decision to postpone [the order].”
