Overcrowding at polling station

Election commission denies technical issues with voting machines in Al-Zubaylia

KARBALA, December 18 — The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) refuted claims of malfunctioning voting machines in the Al-Zubaylia area, east of Karbala, affirming that Monday’s electoral process was proceeding smoothly.

Razzaq Al-Asadi, Media Director of the Commission, told 964:

We have not recorded any malfunctions or technical glitches in any of the voting machines in the Al-Zubaylia area, as rumored. What happened was a crowding of voters, leading the polling official to disconnect the charger from the device. This caused a brief pause in voting, and things have returned to normal now.
