Holiday spirit enlivens Babylon’s market with decorations and gifts
HILLA, December 12 — The shops on Al-Jumaa Street in downtown Hilla are filled with decorations and gifts for the New Year and stores are keen to provide trees and various types of gifts.
Vendors display their goods on the sidewalks, with red and white colors dominating the various offerings. One vendor shared that shoppers in Babylon prefer Chinese-made Santa Claus figures over their Iranian counterparts.
Shop owner Laith Shabr said preparations began in early December, with vendors arranging merchandise.
“Christmas trees are the best-selling items. We offer various gifts, and children’s gifts also see wide popularity. We continue selling until the 25th of December. Some families pay great attention to Christmas decorations, and we prepare pre-orders for them according to their preferences.”
