No governorate reaches 50°C for the first time in over a week

BAGHDAD — Muthanna, Dhi Qar and Maysan are forecast to reach 49°C on Monday, the highest in Iraq and the first day in more than a week on which no governorate is expected to hit 50°C, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Basra, Babil, Wasit, Najaf, Diwaniyah and Karbala are expected to reach 48°C, Baghdad and Diyala 47°C, Salah al-Din 46°C and Anbar 45°C. In the north, Nineveh and Kirkuk are forecast at 44°C, Erbil 42°C, and Duhok and Sulaymaniyah 40°C.

Skies will be clear and sunny across most of the country with scattered cloud in the south, and temperatures will ease overnight. Humidity is expected to rise in southern Iraq.

Winds will be light to moderate at 10 to 20 km/h with occasional calm periods, turning southeasterly at 20 to 30 km/h in western parts of central and southern Iraq. Visibility should be 8 to 10 km, falling to 4 to 6 km in places because of haze and raised pollutant levels.
