Temperatures set to rise before dusty conditions sweep parts of Iraq
BAGHDAD — Temperatures will climb across Iraq over the next two days before stronger winds bring dusty conditions later this week, the General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring said Sunday.
Iraq will see clear, sunny weather through Thursday, with daytime conditions ranging from hot to very hot. Temperatures will rise slightly Monday and Tuesday before easing in some regions later in the week. Northwesterly winds will stay light to moderate Sunday at 10 to 20 km/h, reaching around 40 km/h in desert areas of central and southern Iraq in the afternoon and raising light dust.
Winds will strengthen Wednesday, exceeding 40 km/h across central and northern Iraq and causing dust storms that may cut visibility to three to five kilometers in affected areas. By Thursday the dust shifts toward southern Iraq as strong northwesterly winds continue, with temperatures holding in central and northern regions while dropping several degrees in the south. Visibility will run eight to 10 kilometers Sunday, falling to five to seven in dusty areas, before worsening later in the week.
Summer heat continues to grip the wider region, with the authority’s regional outlook listing Sunday highs of 50°C in Kuwait City and 44°C in Doha.
