Rain and dust storms expected Monday before temperatures drop

BAGHDAD — Northern Iraq will see cloudy skies and light thundery rain on Monday while central and southern areas face rising temperatures and clear conditions, before dust storms and falling temperatures sweep across the country on Tuesday, the Meteorological Authority said Sunday.

Monday will be clear with some cloud in central and southern regions and cloudy with chances of light to thundery rain in the north. Temperatures will rise nationwide, with highs ranging from 26°C in Sulaymaniyah to 41°C in Dhi Qar and Muthanna, with Baghdad reaching 37°C. Visibility will be 8–10 km, dropping to 5–7 km during rainfall.

Tuesday will remain clear in central and southern areas while the north stays cloudy. Moderate to active northwesterly winds will raise dust storms in central and southern regions and temperatures will fall nationwide. Visibility will drop to 3–5 km in dusty conditions.

Wednesday will be partly cloudy across Iraq, with temperatures rising by several degrees in central areas, slightly in the north and remaining steady in the south.

Thursday will be clear to partly cloudy in central and southern regions, while the north sees cloudy skies with chances of light thundery rain. Temperatures will dip slightly in central and northern areas and rise a few degrees in the south.
