Temperatures to drop sharply Monday as dust and rain sweep across Iraq

BAGHDAD — Temperatures will fall by several degrees Monday as rain, dust and strong winds move across Iraq, the meteorological authority said Sunday.

Monday will be partly to fully cloudy with light to moderate and occasionally thundery rain in the north and chances of intermittent light showers in the south. Northwesterly winds will strengthen to 30–40 km/h, raising dust from western areas. Highs will range from 22°C in Duhok to 41°C in Basra, with Baghdad reaching 32°C. Visibility will be 8–10 km, dropping to 5–7 km in rain and 2–4 km in dust.

Tuesday will be clear with some cloud cover nationwide, with moderate northwesterly winds raising light local dust and a further drop in temperatures. Visibility will be 4–6 km in dusty areas.

Wednesday will be partly to fully cloudy in the north with a chance of light rain, while central and southern regions see clear to partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will rise slightly in central areas and remain steady elsewhere.

Thursday is expected to be clear, turning partly cloudy overnight, with temperatures close to Wednesday’s levels.
