Airstrike kills PMF commando regiment commander in Tal Afar

MOSUL — An airstrike killed a Popular Mobilization Forces commando regiment commander and another fighter in Tal Afar, west of Nineveh, on Wednesday evening, the PMF said.

The PMF identified the slain commander as Yassin Mohammed Sadiq, commander of the commando regiment of the 53rd Brigade, killed in two strikes on the Nineveh Operations Sector at 5:50 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. Four others were wounded in a preliminary toll.

The PMF said that “these treacherous and cowardly attacks will not deter it from continuing the path of sacrifice, redemption and giving, in service of our beloved homeland and our dear people.”

The strike is the latest in a sustained wave of attacks on PMF positions. On Tuesday, two fighters were killed and four wounded in a strike on Brigade 17 in Rutba district, Anbar, while separate strikes hit PMF positions in Babil, Anbar and Nineveh with no casualties. Consecutive strikes on Habbaniyah base last week killed 22 military personnel over two days, including the PMF Anbar operations commander. Neither the United States nor Israel has publicly claimed responsibility for any of the strikes.
