Peshmerga ministry condemns drone attack in Chamchamal
SULAYMANIYAH — A drone attack targeted a Peshmerga position in Chamchamal overnight, the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Peshmerga said Sunday, blaming “terrorist groups” and again calling on Iraq’s commander-in-chief to “take firm action to stop these unjustified attacks against Peshmerga forces.”
“Terrorist groups once again carried out an attack, using an explosive drone to target a Peshmerga base in the Chamchamal area,” the ministry said in a statement. “These repeated attacks on Peshmerga bases come at a time when the wider region is facing an especially sensitive and complex situation.”
The strike follows drone attacks on Peshmerga bases in both Erbil and Sulaymaniyah governorates Wednesday that wounded three fighters. Iran’s IRGC and allied Iraqi militias have carried out more than 300 attacks on the Kurdistan Region since the war began Feb. 28, killing eight people and wounding 51, according to Community Peacemaker Teams – Iraqi Kurdistan. The attacks have struck military bases, diplomatic compounds, oil fields, refugee camps, government facilities and civilian areas, with at least 21 civilian homes hit or damaged by drone debris or explosive remnants.
