Airstrike kills six PMF fighters at Anbar checkpoint near Syrian border, group says
BAGHDAD — An airstrike killed six Popular Mobilization Forces fighters and wounded four others at a security checkpoint in Qaim district, Anbar, near Iraq’s western border with Syria, the PMF said Monday.
The PMF said the strike hit the Shaheed Haider checkpoint, which it described as “an official security site,” and attributed the attack to Israel. Neither Israel nor the United States has publicly claimed responsibility.
The strike brings the PMF’s stated toll since the regional war began Feb. 28 to at least 33 dead and 54 wounded across multiple governorates. The group said earlier this week that 32 airstrikes had hit its positions across seven governorates, striking sites in Diyala, Kirkuk, Anbar, Nineveh, Salah al-Din, Wasit and Babil.
