Iraq tells Kuwait it rejects use of its territory to attack neighbors
BAGHDAD — Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed Hussein Bahr al-Uloom told Kuwait’s ambassador to Iraq on Monday that Baghdad rejects the use of Iraqi territory as a launch point for attacks against neighboring countries and is taking measures to pursue those responsible.
Bahr al-Uloom said the Iraqi government is making “major and exceptional efforts” to shield Iraq from the consequences of the regional war and that it “rejects the logic of war in general, particularly the use of its territory as a starting point to target neighboring countries.”
Kuwaiti Ambassador Mohammed Hassan al-Zaman conveyed his country’s concerns over attacks it has faced from Iran during the meeting, which also addressed what Bahr al-Uloom described as “the danger of the current situation” amid the ongoing conflict.
The meeting came after Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry summoned Iraq’s chargé d’affaires last week to deliver a formal protest over attacks launched by Iraqi armed factions that targeted Kuwaiti territory, adding to growing diplomatic pressure on Baghdad as Iran-aligned militias continue to claim strikes across the region.
