Iraq, Kurdistan Region see rain and snowfall as cold temperatures set to continue
BAGHDAD — Weather conditions across Iraq on Sunday include varied cloud cover and rainfall in several areas, with snow recorded on mountainous terrain in the Kurdistan Region, according to the General Authority for Meteorology.
The forecast from the authority’s prediction department, indicated continued cold to very cold temperatures at night and in the early morning hours, with daytime conditions remaining cold. Rain and snow are expected to persist in central and northern regions throughout the coming days, accompanied by a gradual drop in temperatures and shifting wind patterns through the end of the week.
In the central region and eastern parts of the south, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy, with light rain showers possible in scattered areas. The rest of the southern region is expected to see clear skies.
In the Kurdistan Region, conditions are forecast to be cloudy, with light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and occasional heavy downpours in several areas. Light to moderate snowfall is expected on mountain peaks.
Temperatures are expected to rise slightly in the central and southern regions, and marginally in the north.
Winds will be light to moderate, blowing from the southeast at speeds ranging between 10 and 20 kilometers per hour, with periods of calm and variability.
Horizontal visibility will range from 8 to 10 kilometers, dropping to between 4 and 6 kilometers during the morning due to mist.
