Asayish arrests suspects in Sharazoor village killing

SULAYMANIYAH — The Kurdistan Region’s Asayish security agency said Thursday it arrested two suspects in connection with a killing in Daskara village in Sharazoor district.

Asayish said it was notified earlier Thursday of a killing in the village and that security forces “immediately, based on a judicial decision, began follow-up and investigation procedures.”

The agency said the investigation led to the arrest of two suspects “for the purpose of investigation,” identified as family members of the victim. “During the investigation, both suspects confessed to committing the killing of the citizen Shakhawan Hussein Abdullah,” the statement said.

Asayish said the suspects are being held under a judicial decision in accordance with Article 406 of Iraq’s Penal Code, and that investigations into the case are continuing.

Article 406 of Penal Code No. 111 of 1969 addresses aggravated circumstances of premeditated murder and provides for harsher penalties than those outlined under Article 405.

Earlier Thursday, the body of a 44-year-old man was found in Daskara village, part of the Zraiyan subdistrict, and transferred to Shahid Raouf Beg General Hospital in Sharazoor.

Kamal Kaka Ahmed, the hospital’s media officer, told 964media, “We were informed at noon today of the presence of a body in Lower Daskara village.”

He said, “After the arrival of our hospital’s health teams, the body of a 44-year-old man identified as (Sh.H.) was transferred to the emergency department of our hospital, and after medical procedures, the body was sent to the Sulaymaniyah forensic medicine department.”
