Temperatures drop further across Iraq as chill grips country
BAGHDAD — A colder weather system moving in from the eastern Mediterranean will affect Iraq starting Wednesday, bringing cloud cover, scattered rainfall and snowfall in parts of the north, particularly the Kurdistan Region, according to the General Authority for Meteorology.
The authority said the system is accompanied by a cold air mass in the upper atmosphere, with light to moderate rain possible in northern areas and snowfall expected mainly on mountain peaks, extending into parts of Duhok and northern Nineveh.
Temperatures are expected to dip slightly in the morning, remain generally steady in central and southern regions and fall slightly in the north compared with the previous day. Conditions will be cold during the day and very cold overnight and in the early morning hours.
Winds will be moderate southeasterly at 20 to 30 kilometers per hour, with periods of calm in eastern areas before winds turn southeasterly again later.
Visibility is expected to range from 8 to 10 kilometers, falling to 4 to 6 kilometers in fog and to 1 to 2 kilometers in areas experiencing snowfall.
