Reduced visibility below 1 km
Meteorological authority warns of heavy fog Thursday morning
BAGHDAD — The General Authority for Meteorology issued a weather warning on Wednesday, forecasting moderate to dense fog across parts of central and southern Iraq early Thursday, with visibility expected to drop to less than one kilometer.
In a statement, the authority said, “Waves of moderate to dense fog will form in scattered areas of central and southern cities, particularly east of Basra, Maysan, and in Anbar. This will cause a significant decline in horizontal visibility to less than 1 km during the early morning hours of Thursday.”
The authority called on drivers, especially those traveling on external roads during the early morning, to take necessary precautions due to poor visibility conditions.
A multi-vehicle crash on the international highway near Afak district in Diwaniyah governorate killed six people and injured 14 others early Sunday after dense fog sharply reduced visibility.
