Iraq counterterror forces arrest six accused of ISIS involvement

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Service said Wednesday it arrested six people accused of involvement with the Islamic State group in operations across Kirkuk, Nineveh and Baghdad.

In a statement, the service said the arrests were carried out based on intelligence gathered in coordination with the Iraqi National Intelligence Service. Four suspects were detained in Kirkuk and were described as alleged logistical supporters and transporters for ISIS remnants.

The service said two other suspects were arrested in separate operations, one in Mosul and another in Baghdad.

The statement also reported joint operations in Kirkuk’s Dubiz district conducted with the Kurdistan Region’s Asayish Directorate and Sulaymaniyah Commandos, aimed at clearing suspected ISIS hideouts.

In Salah al-Din, the service said security forces carried out clearing missions in the Hamrin mountain range that resulted in the destruction of six ISIS hideouts and tunnels.

The Counter-Terrorism Service said it would continue coordinating with other security and intelligence agencies to maintain national security.
