Al-Sudani, US Chargé d’Affaires discuss bilateral ties in Baghdad meeting

BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met Sunday with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Joshua Harris to discuss Iraq–U.S. relations, regional developments, and continued cooperation, according to a statement from Al-Sudani’s media office.

Al-Sudani said that bilateral ties “are witnessing ongoing development and progress,” and highlighted the importance of building on existing economic and investment agreements “to support development and service-oriented pathways.”

Harris congratulated Iraq on the conclusion of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq’s mandate, calling it a sign of the country’s transition into “a new phase of stability, prosperity, and development.” He also reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Iraq’s development and stability.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani received Sunday, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Iraq, Mr. Joshua Harris.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to further develop joint cooperation, in addition to reviewing regional and international developments. Emphasis was placed on the importance of continued coordination to address existing challenges in a manner that contributes to reinforcing stability and security in the region.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani affirmed that bilateral relations are witnessing ongoing development and progress, reflecting the mutual interest and commitment to advancing cooperation across various fields and sectors, in a way that serves shared interests and mutual benefit.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of continuing to build on the achievements realized in economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries, in light of the memoranda of understanding and joint agreements, to support development and service-oriented pathways.

The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires expressed congratulations on the completion of the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Iraq, noting that this marks Iraq’s entry into a new phase of stability, prosperity, and development. He reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continued cooperation with Iraq in its efforts to achieve development and stability.
