Six governorates back to 50°C after a one-day dip

BAGHDAD — Maysan, Diwaniyah, Wasit, Basra, Muthanna and Dhi Qar are forecast to reach 50°C on Tuesday, a day after no governorate was expected to hit that mark, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Baghdad, Karbala, Babil and Najaf are expected to reach 49°C, Diyala 48°C, Salah al-Din 47°C, Anbar 46°C, Kirkuk 45°C and Nineveh 44°C.

The Kurdistan Region continues to trend cooler. Erbil is forecast at 42°C, Duhok 40°C and Sulaymaniyah 39°C.

Skies will be generally clear with some cloud at times in scattered areas. Conditions will be hot to very hot during the day, particularly around midday, turning relatively milder at night. Winds will be light to moderate and variable at 10 to 20 km/h with periods of calm, shifting to light-to-moderate northwesterlies in southern and eastern areas. Visibility will range from 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km in places because of haze and higher pollutant concentrations.
