Work underway on Anah wastewater project set to serve thousands
ANBAR — Work is advancing on the second residential phase of the Anah wastewater project in Anbar governorate, a scheme designed to serve between 30,000 and 40,000 residents, officials said Sunday.
Resident engineer Ahmed Hatem told 964media that construction is progressing “under the direct supervision of the General Directorate of Sewers” and is moving at a pace “exceeding planned completion rates,” with overall implementation surpassing 15 percent so far.
He said the project includes two lift stations, rainwater and sewage networks extending more than 124 kilometers, and an integrated wastewater treatment plant with a design capacity of 11,000 cubic meters per day.
Hatem added that the work is being carried out with support from local authorities and residents, noting that backing from the Anbar governor and the district mayor has helped the resident engineer’s office and the implementing company overcome logistical hurdles. He said the project is expected to serve most of the district’s population, with future expansions planned for sewage and stormwater services.
Zaid Osama from the Anah sewer division told 964media the project “serves between 30,000 and 40,000 people” and is progressing well through coordination between the resident engineer’s office and the Anah sewer division “according to required standards and both international and Iraqi specifications.”
Waleed Dheeb Nazzal, responsible for constructing the lift stations and treatment units, said implementation is proceeding along two main lines. “The first line is the lift stations, PS1 and PS2, whose concrete structures are complete,” he said. The second line covers the installation of sewage and stormwater pipelines.
Nazzal said more than 42 kilometers of pipelines have been laid out of the planned 124 kilometers and that work is being carried out by Al-Ezza and Nouria Hamad Al-Jum’a companies.
