Football fever reaches a high in Erbil

18,000 tickets sold for Iraqi Air Force vs. Saudi Ittihad football match in Erbil

ERBIL, November 6 — A local ticketing agency announced it had sold 18,000 tickets for the highly anticipated football match between the Iraqi Air Force and Saudi Ittihad, scheduled to take place Monday afternoon in Erbil as part of the AFC Champions League.

Director of the company, Mohammad Bakr, stated that fans of the Falcons – as locals call the Air Force team – had reserved a block of 2,500 seats to attend the match.

Hundreds of people gathered at the gates of Franso Hariri International Stadium two hours before the highly anticipated match, waiting for the doors to open.

Bakr explained that ticket sales had stopped, and no more would be made available.

Ittihad, strengthened by its line-up of stars, hopes it can advance t0 the next round of the AFC Champions League with a win over the Falcons.
