Al-Mashhadani, Swiss ambassador discuss strengthening bilateral ties

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Speaker of Parliament Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani met Monday in Baghdad with Swiss Ambassador to Iraq Daniel Hunn to discuss strengthening political, economic, and investment cooperation between the two countries, according to a statement from Al-Mashhadani’s media office.

Al-Mashhadani welcomed the ambassador and said the parliament is committed to “supporting economic openness and encouraging the entry of Swiss companies into the Iraqi market” as part of efforts to promote reconstruction and development.

He added that “the door is open for Switzerland to work and invest in Iraq,” emphasizing the readiness of Iraqi institutions to provide the necessary facilities for Swiss companies to succeed and expand their presence in the local market.

Speaker of the Council of Representatives Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani met Monday in his office with Swiss Ambassador to Iraq Daniel Hunn.

During the meeting, the two discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance cooperation in political, economic, and investment fields.

Dr. Al-Mashhadani welcomed the ambassador and affirmed the parliament’s commitment to supporting economic openness and encouraging the entry of Swiss companies into the Iraqi market and their participation in reconstruction and development projects.

He stated that Switzerland is welcome to work and invest in Iraq, emphasizing the readiness of Iraqi institutions to provide all necessary facilities for the success of Swiss companies’ operations and to strengthen their presence in the local market.

For his part, Ambassador Daniel Hunn expressed his country’s desire to develop bilateral relations and enhance communication between the parliaments of the two friendly nations to support mutual understanding and exchange of expertise in political and economic fields.
