Erbil launches renovation of Langa Market to modernize busy shopping venue

ERBIL — The Erbil Municipality has begun renovation work at Langa Market, one of the city’s largest and busiest shopping areas, in a project aimed at improving organization and giving the market a modern, unified look.

The municipality said the project, valued at 144 million Iraqi dinars (around $102,000), is funded through 15 percent of municipal revenues. Work will include installing a large canopy to cover vendor stalls and seating areas, providing protection from weather conditions and creating a cohesive visual design.

Located between the 40-Meter and 100-Meter roads in central Erbil, Langa Market is a major hub for everyday goods and local trade. Officials said the project is expected to be completed within a month and will “beautify the market to improve its appearance within the city.”

The market has faced challenges in recent years, including two fires last year that caused severe losses for vendors. The Kurdistan Regional Government later repaired the damaged sections and compensated affected shop owners.
