Drones target Kurdistan Region despite ceasefire, KRG interior ministry says

ERBIL — Multiple drone attacks targeted locations across the Kurdistan Region late Thursday despite the U.S.-Iran ceasefire announced earlier this week, the KRG Ministry of Interior said Friday, with the drones intercepted and brought down.

The ministry said the attacks took place “at several different times” overnight, targeting “various locations” across the region. It said the Kurdistan Region “has not been and will not be part of war and tensions” and had maintained a position of supporting peace and stability even after the ceasefire announcement.

“Citizens of the Kurdistan Region were expecting a return to normalcy,” the ministry said, adding that “terrorists and wrongdoers continue attempts to create unrest” and calling on all parties to halt attacks that “target the stability of Kurdistan and the interests of its citizens.”

The ceasefire is a temporary two-week agreement that includes steps toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz and is expected to be followed by negotiations mediated by Pakistan. The Kurdistan Region faced more than 500 attacks during the five-week conflict, including Iranian ballistic missile strikes that killed Peshmerga fighters and drone attacks on civilian neighborhoods, diplomatic compounds and energy infrastructure.
