Kataib Hezbollah calls Trump’s Gaza plan ‘full of traps’ and ‘more extreme’ than Israeli proposals
BAGHDAD — One of Iraq’s most prominent Shia armed groups, Kataib Hezbollah, said Sunday that U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed initiative on Gaza is “full of traps” and “more extreme” than the positions of Israeli officials, while expressing confidence that Palestinian resistance leaders will respond “wisely.”
In a statement, the group described Trump as “the official patron of the Zionist entity,” saying his initiative “goes beyond the proposals of Ben Gvir and Smotrich.” It added, “It is inconceivable that the executioner appoints himself as a judge and claims to seek justice for a people he has tortured, killed, and displaced for nearly two years of massacres and brutal aggression.”
Trump recently unveiled a 20-point Gaza peace plan calling for an immediate ceasefire, a phased Israeli withdrawal, the release of hostages within 72 hours, the disarmament of Hamas, and the creation of a transitional governance body overseen by an international force.
Israel has publicly accepted the plan, while Hamas has also agreed to some of its main points, including the release of hostages. Talks are being arranged in Egypt to finalize technical steps for implementation, with U.S. envoys expected to join the negotiations.
Full statement from Kataib Hezbollah:
In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
“And [remember, O Muhammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.” [Surah Al-Anfal, Ayah 30]After the U.S. administration continued its unchecked support for the Zionist campaign of brutality and the resulting extermination of unarmed Palestinians, Trump—described here as the official patron of the occupying entity—has proposed an initiative full of traps, more extreme even than the proposals of Ben Gvir and Smotrich. It is absurd for the executioner to appoint himself judge and claim to seek justice for a people he has perfected torturing, killing and displacing over nearly two years of relentless massacres and savage assaults that spared neither stone nor human, leaving Palestinians with nothing but dignity stained in blood.
We in Kata’ib Hezbollah express confidence in the wisdom and skill of the leaders of the Palestinian resistance to turn this threat into an opportunity to strengthen steadfastness. We believe the patience of the Palestinian people will lead them toward independence and liberation, frustrate the enemies’ schemes and thwart attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause.
Arab and Islamic states must rise to the demands of this critical moment and stand with the Palestinian people in a just manner, to assist them in achieving their legitimate demands, honor their sacrifices, preserve their dignity, and recognize their rightful claim to live with dignity on their ancestral land.
