Finance Ministry denies claims of salary cuts for army, police
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Ministry of Finance on Monday denied reports circulating on social media claiming that salaries for army and police personnel would be reduced or halted next month, calling the allegations “baseless and aimed at misleading public opinion and causing confusion.”
“The Ministry of Finance categorically denies what is being circulated on some social media platforms regarding allegations of an intention to reduce the salaries of army and police personnel or stop paying salaries next month,” the ministry said in a statement.
It added, “Minister Taif Sami did not make any statement on this subject, and what is being circulated has no basis in truth and aims to mislead public opinion and incite disorder.”
The ministry said salary payments are made in accordance with legal frameworks and approved timetables, and that financial liquidity is managed to ensure continued obligations to employees and security forces.
The clarification followed reports on local media pages and social platforms alleging that Sami had advised the prime minister to reduce high security sector salaries and that upcoming payments would be suspended due to insufficient liquidity.
