Train hits Basra Oil Company vehicle, driver injured

BASRA — A passenger train traveling from Basra toward Baghdad struck a pickup truck belonging to the Basra Oil Company on Monday evening in the Rumaila area west of Basra, a security source said.

“The accident resulted in the driver of the vehicle sustaining severe injuries, and he was transported to the hospital for treatment,” the source told 964media. “The vehicle suffered heavy damage due to the impact, while the train was not carrying passengers.”

The source said the pickup “was crossing one of the intersections near the railway line and was heading to one of the oil companies, and it was the only passage in that direction.”

Security forces and police inspected the site and opened an investigation. “It was proven that the fault was on the driver of the vehicle,” the source added.
