Seven-year-old girl dies from electric shock in northern Basra

BASRA — A seven-year-old girl died after being electrocuted by a water pump wire at her home in the al-Fathiya area of al-Huwair, northern Basra, security and medical sources said Thursday.

She was taken to Madina General Hospital, but medical staff were unable to revive her. Security authorities opened an investigation and recorded statements from her family before releasing the body.

“According to the initial investigations, the girl died as a result of being electrocuted by a wire located outside her family’s house, the same wire that powered the water pump,” an officer told 964media.

Police said legal procedures are underway as investigations continue.
