Police detain two for illegal dumping on Baghdad road
BAGHDAD — Baghdad’s Karkh Police announced Wednesday the arrest of two individuals caught dumping construction debris on the newly constructed Dora–Yusufiyah Highway.
The arrests followed the circulation of a video on social media showing several dump trucks discarding debris along the highway. In response, the commander of Baghdad Karkh Police directed a task force from the Karkh External Roads Protection Department to intervene. Supported by the Traffic Directorate and other security units, the team surrounded the vehicles and detained two violators along with their trucks.
Authorities instructed the individuals to remove the debris from the highway. Both suspects were handed over to the local police station, where legal procedures are underway.
In August, Baghdad Operations Command announced the arrest of 12 individuals for illegally dumping construction debris along the international highway in Abu Ghraib, west of the capital. According to a statement, the detainees were drivers of large transport vehicles. Their trucks were also seized as part of legal proceedings.
