Iraqi Interior Ministry denies reports of explosion near Baghdad airport

BAGHDAD — The Interior Ministry on Sunday dismissed claims of a targeted explosion near Baghdad International Airport, saying the capital remains secure and stable.

“The Ministry of Interior categorically denies the news circulated by some media outlets and social media platforms about a targeted explosion near Baghdad Airport,” the ministry said in a statement.

It added that no such incidents have been recorded and described the reports as “completely false and aimed at causing confusion among citizens.”

The denial followed online claims late Saturday that an American or Israeli airstrike in Baghdad had killed two militia leaders and signaled a deterioration in the city’s security situation.
