Woman killed in traffic incident in Tuz Khurmatu district
TUZ KHURMATU — A 42-year-old woman was killed Tuesday after being struck by a car while crossing the main Kirkuk-Baghdad road in the center of Tuz Khurmatu district, according to hospital officials.
Ali Falah, head of the emergency department at Khurmatu General Hospital, told 964media that the woman was brought in with severe injuries. “Despite extensive efforts, her life could not be saved due to the seriousness of her injuries,” he said.
Falah said the woman had gone to the market and was returning home when she attempted to cross the road and was hit. The impact caused her head to strike the pavement, leading to severe bleeding. She died after half an hour in the hospital.
Police reported that the driver of the vehicle surrendered himself to Tuz Khurmatu police immediately after the incident.
The Tuz Khurmatu experienced a sharp rise in traffic incidents in 2024, with over 40 fatalities and more than 100 injuries reported—a 40% increase from 2023—which included motorcyclists among the victims.
