Missing Kurdish woman found safe in Mecca after extensive search

SULAYMANIYAH, OCTOBER 30 — After two and a half days of searching, the family of a Kurdish woman missing in Saudi Arabia received word she was in stable condition at the Holy Mosque in Mecca. Her brother said the circumstances of her disappearance and where she had been were still unclear.

The 59-year-old woman from the town of Kalar in southern Sulaymaniyah went missing two days ago while performing Umrah at the Holy Mosque in Mecca. Her brother said he searched for her around Mecca after she disappeared while circling the Kaaba. The woman and her brother had travelled to Saudi Arabia with relatives on October 24 to perform Umrah.

Hassan Bahjat, the brother of the missing woman, told 964, “My son and a relative inspected the Holy Mosque last night and found her there, where she was in stable condition. We still don’t know where she was during the past two days.”
