Photography workshop in Hamdaniya helps youth build media skills
HAMDANIYA — A two-day photography workshop in Nineveh’s Hamdaniya district concluded with 22 young men and women gaining both theoretical and practical skills under the guidance of trainers supported by the Nineveh Rising organization in cooperation with the Amkabad media outlet.
Trainer Behnam Khalid Behnam said the program combined fundamentals with hands-on practice. “We held this workshop to teach the basics of photography, and thankfully the participants’ response was excellent. On the first day we covered core concepts such as the exposure triangle, image composition, and types of photography. The second day was fully practical, focusing on using the camera, taking photos, editing them, and even shooting reels. At the end we held a competition, and the winner received an encouragement prize,” he told 964media.
Participant Venesia Muhannad said it was the first time such a course had been offered in the area. “Anyone can start a small project, and today in 2025 social media is full of opportunities. This workshop will help young men and women market themselves and develop their projects in a practical way,” she said.
Another participant, Raymond Zuhair, highlighted the range of attendees. “The participants came from different age groups. Although the course was short, it was very useful. We learned important basics that will be a foundation to build on in the future. Most of us have a hobby or ambition to become professional photographers, and this step gave us greater motivation to continue developing,” he said.
Workshop organizer Yousif Habash said the initiative was designed to create opportunities for youth. “The program included the basics of photography and its types, along with practical training on the second day. We assigned photography tasks to participants to carry out themselves, because photography has now become an essential part of life, whether in media or personal work. We believe passion and motivation are the basis for developing any skill, and photography with its many opportunities can open wide doors for youth to enter the job market,” he said.
