12 arrested for dumping debris along Abu Ghraib highway

BAGHDAD — Baghdad Operations Command announced on Thursday the arrest of 12 individuals for illegally dumping construction debris along the international highway in Abu Ghraib, west of the capital.

According to a statement, the detainees were drivers of large transport vehicles. Their trucks were also seized as part of legal proceedings.

The statement said, “The random disposal of waste and construction debris remains a recurring concern, especially amid the rapid pace of urban development in Baghdad. This practice causes environmental and health damage, as well as visual pollution.”

The arrests were carried out by a unit from the command, under directives from the Baghdad Operations Commander.
