Supporting fish stock

400,000 fingerlings released into Dukan Lake, Sirwan River

SULAYMANIYAH — Local authorities have released around 400,000 fingerlings into Dukan Lake and the Sirwan River as part of two separate efforts to bolster fish populations in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, according to officials.

The Dukan district administration said 250,000 fingerlings were released into Dukan Lake in an initiative aimed at supporting the local fishing industry. Another 150,000 were introduced into the Sirwan River during a separate event.

Sirwan Sarhad, the district commissioner of Dukan, urged residents, tourists, and fishers to follow seasonal fishing restrictions and help preserve aquatic resources.

The Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources said the program is part of ongoing efforts to increase fish stocks in the region’s lakes and rivers.
