Iraq’s weather agency warns of continued extreme heat across country

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Authority said Wednesday that the country will remain under the influence of a seasonal surface thermal low, bringing hot to very hot weather conditions to most regions.

In its latest forecast, the authority reported a slight rise in temperatures — about 1 to 2 degrees Celsius higher than Tuesday — with generally stable weather expected nationwide. Scattered high clouds may appear over northern areas, but no major disturbances are anticipated.

Winds will be northwesterly at moderate speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour, occasionally strengthening in the south with gusts reaching up to 45 km/h. The stronger winds could cause light to moderate dust, particularly in desert regions, while conditions in the north are expected to be calmer.

Horizontal visibility will range from 8 to 10 kilometers in most areas but may fall to between 5 and 7 kilometers in dusty conditions during the day. Visibility is forecast to improve at night.
