Dust storms and cooler temperatures expected across Iraq on Tuesday

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Authority on Monday forecasted a drop in temperatures and widespread dust storms across the country beginning Tuesday, as the seasonal thermal low-pressure system begins to weaken.

In its daily report, the agency said scattered clouds are expected to appear over southern cities, with temperatures falling slightly compared to the previous day.

Northwesterly winds are expected to blow at moderate speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour but will intensify in southern areas during the day, raising dust levels. Overnight dust activity is also expected to increase in Nineveh, Salah al-Din, and Anbar governorates.

The agency estimated horizontal visibility at 6 to 8 kilometers under normal conditions, but warned that it may drop to 3 to 5 kilometers in areas affected by the dust storms.
