Iraq’s weather authority warns of extreme heat and dust waves across the country
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Authority on Sunday issued a detailed forecast warning of continued extreme heat and potential dust waves across several regions, as daytime temperatures remain above 40°C.
The agency said conditions would stay clear and intensely hot during the day, with somewhat milder weather at night in the country’s northern and western areas. Temperatures are expected to remain steady compared to Saturday’s levels.
Winds are forecast to blow from the northwest at light to moderate speeds of 10 to 20 kph, with some central and southern areas likely to experience stronger gusts reaching up to 45 kph during the day. Authorities said these gusts could trigger dust waves of varying intensity, especially in desert zones.
Visibility is expected to range from 8 to 10 kilometers under normal conditions, but could fall to between 3 and 5 kilometers during dusty periods. Meteorologists anticipate gradual improvement in visibility by evening.
