Visa on arrival

Iraqis allowed to enter Jordan without prior visa as airspace closures continue

NEWSROOM — The Iraqi Embassy in Amman announced Tuesday that Iraqi citizens can now enter Jordan through Queen Alia International Airport without obtaining a visa in advance, following coordination with Jordanian authorities.

“It has been decided to allow holders of Iraqi passports to enter the Kingdom through Queen Alia International Airport without the need for a prior visa,” the embassy said in a statement.

The temporary measure comes as thousands of Iraqis remain stranded abroad due to the continued closure of Iraqi airspace, now entering its sixth consecutive day. The shutdown, prompted by escalating military exchanges between Israel and Iran, has disrupted commercial flights and repatriation efforts across the region.

According to the embassy, visas will now be issued upon arrival “directly after a brief interview conducted by the relevant authorities, in exchange for the prescribed fees.”

The new arrangement is intended to ease the movement of Iraqi travelers passing through Jordan on their way back home. However, travelers will be required to provide “departure guarantees” until normal air traffic resumes in Iraq.

“The Embassy affirms that it is closely monitoring the situation of citizens and is making every effort to ensure their passage and provide the necessary facilitation, in full coordination with the Jordanian authorities,” the statement said.

The Kurdistan Regional Government also issued updated instructions Monday night for Kurdish citizens stranded abroad, offering guidance on how to return through neighboring countries while air travel remains disrupted.
