Iraqi, Saudi foreign ministers discuss regional fallout of Israeli strikes on Iran

BAGHDAD — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a phone call Saturday with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, to discuss regional security developments following Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory and subsequent Iranian retaliation.

In a statement, Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two diplomats reviewed the latest escalation in the region, with a focus on the potential consequences of Israel’s strikes on the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The ministry said the discussion included “the evolving security and political situation in the region” and emphasized the importance of coordination between Iraq and Saudi Arabia amid rising tensions.

The call comes as regional and international actors express concern about the fallout from Friday’s attacks, which targeted multiple nuclear and military sites in Iran. Iraqi officials have warned of a growing threat to regional stability and reiterated calls for diplomatic solutions.

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a phone call with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

The call included a discussion and assessment of the evolving security situation in the region, particularly in light of the attacks carried out by the Israeli entity against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the potential consequences for regional security and stability.

The two sides also discussed internal developments in Iran, the positions of several countries regarding the current escalation, and the importance of supporting the negotiation track concerning Iran’s nuclear program, as well as ensuring the continuity of related meetings and talks.
