Iraq sees spike in temperatures as hot air mass moves across the country

BAGHDAD — Iraq is experiencing a spike in temperatures due to a surface low-pressure system, the Iraqi Meteorological Authority said Thursday, with hot daytime conditions expected to persist in much of the country.

According to the agency’s report, the system is creating stable weather with clear skies nationwide. A hot air mass is moving in, causing temperatures to rise slightly compared to Wednesday, particularly in central and southern regions, where daytime heat is expected to reach “hot to very hot” levels. Nighttime and early morning temperatures, however, will remain cooler and generally moderate.

Winds are northwesterly at speeds ranging between 10 and 20 kilometers per hour, with stronger gusts expected in eastern parts of the southern region. The wind activity may stir up dust and sand, particularly in desert areas.

Horizontal visibility is reported at 8 to 10 kilometers in most regions but may fall to 5 to 7 kilometers in areas affected by blowing dust.
