Al-Sudani affirms Iraq’s support for Lebanon in call with President Aoun

BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Tuesday received a phone call from Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, during which the two leaders discussed regional stability and the outcomes of the Arab League Summit held in Baghdad over the weekend.

According to a statement from the prime minister’s media office, Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s “firm and principled position in supporting Lebanon’s security, sovereignty, and stability,” and expressed “clear rejection of violations against Lebanese territory.”

President Aoun congratulated Al-Sudani on what he called a “successful” Arab Summit and praised Iraq’s initiative to establish an Arab Solidarity Fund for the reconstruction of Gaza and Lebanon. He also thanked Al-Sudani for pledging financial assistance.

During Saturday’s 34th Arab League Summit in Baghdad, Al-Sudani proposed the fund to aid countries affected by war and crisis, announcing Iraq would contribute $40 million—divided equally between Gaza and Lebanon.
