Body of 14-year-old body recovered from Dujaili River in Kut

WASIT—Police divers in Kut city, Wasit, working with local fishermen and residents of the Al-Jihad neighborhood, recovered the body of 14-year-old Hussein Ali Rashid from the Dujaili River on Wednesday.

A security source told 964media that the boy, a resident of Al-Thaqalain area in Al-Jihad, had drowned Tuesday night while swimming with two friends. His family was notified around 10 p.m. after his companions reported the incident.

According to the boys who were with him, Hussein drowned shortly after they entered the river near their neighborhood.

Police river units, supported by fishermen, began search operations early Wednesday morning. Authorities have opened an investigation to determine whether any criminal factors were involved in the incident.
