Teen dies in Wasit after being buried under wheat during nighttime harvest

WASIT — A 14-year-old boy from al-Ahrar district in western Wasit governorate died after being accidentally buried under a load of wheat while sleeping on the back of his family’s truck during a nighttime harvest, a security source told 964media.

The victim, identified as Saif Hossam, had joined his father, uncle, and other relatives during harvesting operations. “The incident occurred in al-Ahrar district, where the boy Saif Hossam, 14 years old, suffocated and died after a harvester load was dumped onto him while he was asleep on the back of the truck,” the source said.

According to early findings, Saif and his cousin fell asleep on the truck bed as the work stretched late into the night. When the uncle arrived to unload a batch of harvested wheat, he reportedly woke one of the boys but did not notice Saif was still asleep.

A full load of wheat was then emptied into the truck bed. After proceeding with a second batch, the family realized Saif was missing. They searched the harvested grain and found him unresponsive, having suffocated under the weight.
