Dhi Qar police commander wounded while responding to tribal dispute
DHI QAR — The police commander for northern Dhi Qar was wounded Friday evening while intervening in a tribal dispute in Al-Nasr District, prompting a heavy security response and the arrest of 20 suspects, authorities said.
“A tribal conflict erupted in Al-Nasr District, leading to the injury of Maj. Gen. Hassan Kazem, commander of northern Dhi Qar police, who was shot in the left thigh, along with one police officer,” a security source told 964media. Both were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Security forces were dispatched to the scene and contained the dispute without fatalities.
In a later statement, the Dhi Qar Police Directorate confirmed that “a force from the Dhi Qar Police Directorate arrested 20 suspects from both sides of the tribal dispute in Al-Nasr District.” The directorate said security forces cordoned off the area and brought the situation under control.
“The tribal conflict resulted in the injury of the northern Dhi Qar police commander Maj. Gen. Hassan Al-Aboudi, who was taken to the hospital,” the statement added. “The medical staff confirmed that his condition is stable.”
